During the consultation, we discuss your pet's symptoms, medical history, diet, current medications, and previous test results. We then plan diagnostic testing to thoroughly assess the condition of the hematopoietic system.
In most cases, this includes a complete blood count (CBC), a manual blood smear evaluation, and blood biochemistry. When necessary, we expand the diagnostic work-up with additional tests targeted at the suspected condition.
This allows us to differentiate, among others, anemia in dogs and cats, platelet disorders, coagulation disorders, bone marrow diseases, tick-borne diseases affecting the hematopoietic system - such as babesiosis - as well as autoimmune blood disorders, including immune-mediated hemolytic anemia (IMHA) and immune-mediated thrombocytopenia (ITP).
Treatment is always tailored to the individual patient and the underlying cause of the condition. In many cases, regular monitoring of blood parameters is an essential part of treatment - especially in chronic diseases, anemia, or platelet disorders. We establish a schedule for follow-up blood tests and carefully explain to the owner which symptoms at home should prompt earlier contact with the veterinarian. If hematopoietic malignancies are suspected, we refer patients to veterinary oncology centers specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of these diseases.
If your dog or cat has concerning complete blood count (CBC) results or symptoms that may indicate a blood disorder, we invite you to schedule a hematology consultation at our clinic in Poznań.
